Since its launch, the International Journal of Taiwan Studies (IJTS) Research Article Competition has sought to recognise and encourage outstanding scholarship by early-career researchers in the field. Over the years, the competition has highlighted work that is theoretically ambitious, empirically rich, and attentive to Taiwan’s place in wider regional and global conversations.
This special issue brings together former awardees either to revisit their award-winning articles or to share the research they are now pursuing and planning. The result is both a retrospective and a look ahead. It shows how individual research trajectories have developed since the award, and how emerging scholars are shaping the questions, methods, and disciplinary boundaries of Taiwan Studies.
We are grateful to Professor Ming-yeh T. Rawnsley, Editor-in-Chief of IJTS, for pitching this special issue, and to all contributors for their generous contributions.
